BARBATUQUES
Barbatuques is an interactive and fun activity designed for families where audiences and Barbatuques members enjoy musical games and explore their sonic bodies through an engaging and playful immersion. It highlights the Brazilian popular repertoire and the group's original music. This interactive experience welcomes parents, children, educators, and people of all ages to discover different body sounds like clapping, snapping, mouth sounds, or footbeats. Participants then create music and have fun with Barbatuques.
ABOUT THEM
Barbatuques is a pioneering São Paulo-based Brazilian percussion group known for creating music solely with the human body (body percussion) and voice, blending traditional Brazilian rhythms with contemporary styles such as beatboxing and electronic music.
Founded by the multi-instrumentalist and composer Fernando Barba, the group explores the body’s phonetic, rhythmic, and melodic possibilities to create a "body orchestra", gaining global recognition through performances in over 30 countries, events such as the Rio Olympics Closing Ceremony in 2016, educational workshops, and soundtrack contributions (including for the Rio 2 movie).
They are celebrated for their innovative, collective approach to sound, making body music a recognised art form and educational tool worldwide.
